EcoJustice
| What's New: |
The mandate of the EcoJustice Committee is to coordinate the efforts of the Anglican Church of Canada in the areas of peace, justice, and ecology.
The “eco” in EcoJustice stands for ecology as well as economy. When the committee was established in 1995, General Synod added the prefix to indicate a wholistic or ecological vision of justice that incorporates the integrity of creation.
What we do
1. Speak prophetically. We give voice to concerns about peace, justice and ecology in the church and beyond through developing church policy, making statements to government representatives, and through educational strategies in these areas:
- Peace and Nonviolence
- Ecological Justice
- Global Economic Justice
- Canadian Social Development
- Indigenous Justice
2. Work ecumenically. We coordinate work with Anglican and ecumenical partners in peace and justice including:
- KAIROS – Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives
- Project Ploughshares
- Church Council on Justice and Corrections
- Women’s Inter Church Council of Canada
- Canadian Council of Churches - Commission on Justice and Peace
- World Council of Churches
3. Animate Networks. We help build justice networks and facilitate information sharing among Anglicans:
- KAIROS networks
- Regional and National Conferences
We help Canadian Anglicans to participate in networks of the worldwide Anglican Communion:
We organize Justice Camps as part of our focus on youth and leadership development:
- Environment Justice Camp, Victoria – May 2007
- Advocacy Justice Camp, Ottawa – May 2006
- Food Justice Camp, Winnipeg – August 2005
